Dentures

Dentures - prosthetic teeth attached to a supporting structure - are an excellent option for patients who are missing several or all of their teeth. Modern dentures are amazingly realistic looking, since they are crafted of attractive composite materials. Moreover, when dentures are anchored to the jawbone by dental implants, they remain securely in place, providing a look and feel that are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. A talented smile design expert, Dr. Carnazza provides dentures that fit each patient's unique appearance and treatment goals.

Types of Dentures

There are two types of dentures: full and partial. Which one a patient receives depends on how many teeth he or she is missing and other dental health-related factors.

Full Dentures

Full dentures are used for patients who have lost all the teeth on either jaw or all the teeth in the mouth. Full dentures are held in place with denture cream (which temporarily adheres them to the gum tissue) or with dental implants (which permanently anchors them to the jawbone).

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used to replace several missing teeth in a row. Partial dentures are similar to dental crowns and bridges in that they are bonded to natural teeth adjacent to the gap or anchored to the jawbone by dental implants.

"Root Canals" - Endodontic Therapy

Endodontic therapy, or root canal therapy, is a procedure that treats the soft tissue (the pulp) inside the tooth's root canal. (The procedure is sometimes referred to simply as a "root canal".) When the pulp becomes infected due to tooth decay, injury, or another cause, root canal therapy can eliminate pain caused by the infection, prolong use of the tooth, and prevent or delay the tooth's extraction. The root canal procedure is performed while the patient is completely anesthetized, or in conjunction with sedation dentistry, so the procedure is as pain-free as possible.

Root Canals - the Procedure

The root canal procedure involves three stages: first, removing the pulp from, and disinfecting, the root canal; second, filling the canal with a special filling; and third, restoring the tooth with a post and crown. .

Root Canals - When to Seek Treatment

You may need root canal therapy if you experience one or more of following symptoms:

• Tooth pain
• Deep cavity
• Swelling
• Sensitivity to heat and cold

Fillings

Dental fillings treat tooth decay and prevent deterioration of the tooth. Carnazza Dental Medicine provides attractive composite and tooth-colored fillings, which blend beautifully with the natural teeth. These composite fillings look natural and bond to the tooth.

Dental Exams and Cleanings

Dental exams and cleanings are crucial in preventing dental problems and catching existing problems in their earliest, most treatable stages. Adults should undergo dental examinations every six months; contact our office today to schedule your next exam.

Periodontal Exams

Periodontal disease, or gum disease - the destruction of the teeth, gums, and jawbone by bacteria in residual plaque - can cause a range of dental and systemic health problems. Regular periodontal exams help halt or slow the progression of the disease. We can provide many non-surgical treatments to fight this disease. Such as laser and local antibiotic therapy directly into the affected areas.

Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontics involves the use of braces or Invisalign® aligners to treat crooked, crowded teeth, gaps between the teeth, bite problems, and other orthodontic flaws. Orthodontic treatments gradually move the teeth into alignment.  This is a more attractive option to traditional braces.
