What if we told you that a simple, affordable 2-minute exam could save your life? It’s just another way Dr. Carnazza and our team go the extra step to make sure you’re healthy and maximize every minute during your visit with us.

Know The Facts About Oral Cancer

The good news about oral cancer is that the earlier we detect its presence, the greater the survival rate is among patients. Every dentist conducts a visual and manual oral cancer screening during a comprehensive patient exam. Most health experts agree that all adults need a screening at least once every year. Dr. Carnazza chooses to go one step further with the VELscope Vx assessment because it can catch abnormalities that the naked eye might miss.
You should know these facts about oral cancer:

Cases and diagnoses are on the rise.

The biggest growth of cases is in non-smoking patients.
It is now linked to the presence of HPV.
It claims one North American every hour of every day.

What Can I Expect During My VELscope Vx Exam?

At Carnazza Dental Medicine, we conduct this exam on every patient we treat because we are extremely dedicated to making sure your oral and overall health are in the best possible shape so that you can enjoy life to the fullest. You’re probably concerned about how much the screening costs. In many cases, your dental insurance will completely cover the cost of an exam. If not, please don’t worry. We will greatly reduce the cost so that what you’re left with paying is very minimal.

What Is A VELscope Vx?

The VELscope Vx device is basically a highly specialized blue light that Dr. Carnazza shines in your mouth. The natural fluorescence of your mouth’s soft tissue is inspected to see if there are any discolorations, spots, or other abnormalities that could be cause for concern. We’re looking for an irregular, dark area that stands out among the otherwise normal, green fluorescence of healthy mouth tissue.

If we find something out-of-the-ordinary, Dr. Carnazza we reevaluate the area under VELscope and white light. We may also take some photos using our advanced intraoral camera technology. From there we will decide the best course of action for you.

Rest assured, everyone at Carnazza Dental Medicine is here for you every step of the way, no matter what your oral health needs may be. We will continue to invest in technology and education to help you stay healthy and look your very best.
